But I ...Well, I'm a little late to this party. But I agree - the subject work is timeless, as is so much of what came from Rich and his various collaborators. So many of these songs mean so much to me - I pretty sure I could sing the entire album by heart.

I was a horrible sinner - and a well-versed student of Scripture - when it all blew up and I was separated from my family, just beginning life as a refugee of grace, and so when he says "and the streams are all swollen with winter, winter unfrozen, and free to run away now", I know exactly of what he speaks - or at least how I felt it - my heart had been thawed, and the sin that had frozen it was melted and running away.

So many, many poetic moments like that are sewn through his work - you feel them as much as you understand them.

But did you ever notice - when you sing "You gotta get up, you gotta get up, you gotta get up..." you are singing (almost exactly) the bugle call "Revilie" ... just sayin'... ;)Blast it Tom!https://www.blogger.com/profile/09231487597142141885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3508293003737956258.post-65213544471992151202015-04-15T07:25:31.697-05:002015-04-15T07:25:31.697-05:00Rich left his footprints and I have taken heart. Musically, Liturgy/Legacy to me is a completely timeless album - it doesn't sound like it came from any particular era or decade, it's always fresh & wonderful.

Lyrically, Mullins was at the top of his game here, and your description of how he managed to combine being explicitly Christian without the cliches or easy formulas is spot on. His legacy is one of my life's greatest treasures and affect so much of how I view theology and our Father's reckless, raging love. Hard to believe it's been 20 years. Definitely worth celebrating! Thanks for the good read.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
