Good idea.
And speaking of Rich Mullins, you should check out my latest blog post about him. They've made a movie about his life.PostConsumer Reportshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04382150335755928153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3508293003737956258.post-11536830675207130482013-06-23T13:47:06.975-05:002013-06-23T13:47:06.975-05:00I had a very similar experience with Blackbird--th...I had a very similar experience with Blackbird--through the Kings Singers on a hunt for the original (although my exposure was from their Live at Wolf Trap event shown on PBS). I too was involved in choral music and amazed at the world of possibilities for acapella music.

This was when the Nylons were exploding on the scene. Through acapella arrangements I learned some great pop standards from the 50's and 60's.

It didn't ruin most of the originals (although in a few cases, the covers were simply better IMO). The copy or alternate version typically led to an appreciation of the original. Covers are usually of very solid songs.

The thought has occurred to me to introduce my kids to 'covers' of some of my favorite songs, performed by more 'modern' artists. Then they would learn my favorite songs through this backdoor method. However, there aren't that many hip hop or grunge/rock versions of my favorites. And, those versions wouldn't have much of the same Rich Mullins feel.

I'm reconciled now to my kids someday liking my favorites, and in other cases never hearing them.LLN_Devbloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15333751108256665673noreply@blogger.com
